Sewage treatment plant installation in Derbyshire and the Midlands

If your property is off the mains sewer, the system in the ground is doing a serious job — and when it fails, it fails messily. We supply and install complete off-mains drainage systems for homes, farms, pubs, holiday parks and commercial sites, from a single-dwelling treatment plant to multi-property schemes.

We are not tied to one manufacturer. We specify the plant that suits your ground conditions, population load and discharge point, then install it properly — excavation, base, backfill, electrics, commissioning and handover.

What we supply and install

  • Sewage treatment plants — domestic and commercial package plants, all leading makes.
  • Septic tanks — new tank supply and installation where a septic tank remains the right solution.
  • Drainage fields and soakaways — sized and built to suit your percolation results.
  • Sewage pumping stations — where the fall is wrong or the plant sits below the outfall.
  • Grease traps and interceptors — for kitchens, yards and commercial premises.
  • Rainwater harvesting and water recycling — for sites looking to cut mains water use.

Do you need to replace your septic tank?

Under the Environment Agency’s General Binding Rules, a septic tank that discharges straight to a ditch, stream or any other watercourse is no longer allowed. It must be replaced with a sewage treatment plant, or the discharge redirected to a properly built drainage field. The rules also bite when a property changes hands — a non-compliant system is a common reason for a sale stalling at the searches stage.

A septic tank discharging to a soakaway or drainage field is generally fine, provided it is in good order and emptied regularly. If you are not sure which you have, we can trace it, survey it with CCTV and tell you honestly where you stand — before you spend money.

Typical reasons people call us for a new system

  • Selling or buying a property and the drainage will not pass muster
  • An old tank that has collapsed, cracked or keeps backing up
  • A soakaway that no longer takes water, leaving the garden wet or smelling
  • An extension or new build that adds load the existing system cannot carry
  • A discharge to a watercourse that needs bringing into line with the regulations

How an installation runs

We start with a site visit: where the system sits, where it discharges, the ground conditions and the access for plant and deliveries. From there you get a written quotation covering supply, excavation, installation, backfill, commissioning and clearing away — no vague allowances that grow later.

On the day, we bring our own machines and crew. Most domestic installations are completed inside a few days, and we leave the site tidy and the system running and explained — including how often it needs emptying and servicing.

Areas we cover for sewage treatment plant installation

Based at Handley Wood, Chesterfield, we install across Derbyshire — Chesterfield, Dronfield, Bolsover, Clay Cross, Matlock, Bakewell and the Peak District villages — and routinely work in Sheffield and South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire (Mansfield, Worksop, Retford), Staffordshire, Birmingham and the wider Midlands, and north through Leeds and Yorkshire to the Kendal area. We also supply systems UK-wide and across Europe — if you only need the plant delivered, we can do that too.

Common questions

Installation questions, answered

How much does a new sewage treatment plant cost?

It depends on the size of plant, the ground conditions, how much excavation is involved and whether a drainage field or pumping station is needed. A straightforward domestic installation is a very different job to a commercial plant on a difficult site, so we quote after seeing it rather than guessing over the phone. The quote covers supply, installation, commissioning and clearing away.

Do I have to replace my septic tank because of the 2020 regulations?

Only if it discharges to a watercourse — a ditch, stream, river or surface water drain. Those discharges had to be replaced with a sewage treatment plant or redirected to a drainage field. A septic tank discharging to a properly working drainage field or soakaway is generally still allowed. If you are unsure, we can trace and survey the system and tell you where you stand.

How long does an installation take?

Most domestic installations take a few days on site once the plant is delivered, depending on access, depth and whether a drainage field is being built at the same time. We give you a realistic timescale with the quotation.

Do you install all makes of treatment plant?

Yes. We are independent, so we specify and install whichever make suits the site and the load — and we can service and repair all makes and models afterwards.

Can you supply a system without installing it?

Yes. We supply sewage treatment systems and septic tanks UK-wide and into Europe for customers who have their own groundworks contractor.

How soon can we use the system after installation?

Usually straight away once it is commissioned. A treatment plant takes a few weeks to reach full biological performance while the bacteria establish, which is normal and does not stop you using it. We will tell you what to expect before we leave.

Do you clear up and reinstate the ground afterwards?

Yes, and it should be on the quote rather than discovered afterwards. Spoil removal and reinstatement are real costs, and they are two of the commonest omissions in a quote that looks cheaper than everyone else’s.

Can you work alongside our own builder or groundworker?

Yes. We can supply and commission the system while your contractor does the excavation and backfill, or do the whole job. What matters is that the design, the inspection stages and the building control notification are agreed between us at the start so nothing is assumed.
