Septic tank & sewage treatment services in Chesterfield

We are based at Handley Wood on Whittington Road, so Chesterfield is not a place we travel to — it is where we are. Emptying, installations, repairs and drainage, 24 hours a day.

We are a Chesterfield firm: our yard is at Handley Wood, Whittington Road, S43 2PW. We empty septic tanks and treatment plants with our own tankers, install and replace off-mains systems, service and repair all makes, and clear and survey drains — across the town and the villages around it.

Off-mains drainage around Chesterfield

Chesterfield itself is almost entirely on mains drainage — the town centre, Hasland, Newbold, Brampton and the estates around them all discharge into the public sewer. The off-mains work sits in a ring around the town, and it is a ring we know well because we live in it.

Go west towards Holymoorside, Cutthorpe, Old Brampton, Wigley and the edge of the moors and the picture changes quickly: farmhouses, converted barns, cottages and small clusters of houses on their own septic tanks and treatment plants. The same is true north through Barlow and Unstone, east around Calow, Temple Normanton and Sutton Scarsdale, and south towards Wingerworth’s outlying properties and Ashover.

The ground here is coal measures — shales, mudstones and sandstone, with a long history of mining underneath. For drainage that matters in two ways. Percolation is often slower than people expect, so drainage fields need to be properly sized rather than guessed at, and old workings and made ground mean excavation can throw up surprises. We have dug enough holes around this town to be unsurprised by most of them.

Why being local actually matters here

Most of our Chesterfield customers are within twenty minutes of the yard. That shows up in practical ways rather than marketing ones: an emergency call at eleven at night is a short drive, not a regional dispatch; a tanker that is already out on the Brimington side can usually pick up another job the same morning; and if a repair needs a part we have not got with us, it is a trip back to the yard rather than a return visit next week.

It also means we know the lanes. The access at a cottage up the Linacre road or down a farm track off the Baslow road is not a mystery we have to discover on the day.

What we do for Chesterfield customers

  • Septic tank emptying — our own tankers, scheduled or emergency, usually within a short drive of the yard.
  • Supply & installation — new treatment plants, septic tanks, drainage fields and pumping stations, designed from a percolation test.
  • Drainage, jetting & CCTV — blocked drains cleared, high-pressure jetting, tracing and full CCTV surveys.
  • Repairs & servicing — all makes serviced and repaired — air pumps, blowers, gearboxes, sub pumps, controls and alarms.

Buying or selling around Chesterfield

Drainage now comes up in every sale. On the village properties west and north of the town — exactly the ones most likely to be off mains — a buyer’s solicitor will ask what the system is, where it discharges and how it is maintained. We do pre-sale and pre-purchase checks locally: trace the system, survey it, inspect the tank or plant and give you a plain written summary you can hand over. More on what gets asked when you sell.
